Polls are conducted for various media outlets. This section provides access to current poll results and historical polling data.
2000 Election - Polling Performance
PBS analyzes the performance (accuracy rate) of polling taken before the 2000 Presidential election between Al Gore and George Bush. This was as closest election since Kennedy-Nixon in 1960.
CBS News Polls
CBS presents analysis of a variety of public opinion polls on this gateway page. Specific information about methodology and questions are available with each story.
Gallup : Election 2004
Like the Roper Center, Gallup has been in the polling business for more than half a century. The 2004 election gateway links to polling data as well as analyses, candidate profiles, and historical data.
Harris Interactive
Harris Interactive is a market research and consulting firm best known for The Harris Poll. Harris Interactive has pioneered a method to conduct scientifically valid market research using the Internet. The also firm makes some of its polling data public on its home page.
LA Times : Electoral College Map
Los Angeles Times staff have created an interactive Flash electoral college map that characterizes a state as "Bush" or "Kerry" if the candidate leads by more than the state poll margin of error. Mouseover each state to see voting patterns for the last four elections, and change state "color" to see the impact of swing states on the election.
New York Times/CBS News Poll
Aggregated data in this series (PDF) focuses on the election and who would win if the election were held "today"; opinion about George W. Bush (1999-2004) and how well he has performed as president (February 2001 - present); and which issues are most important. A significant number of respondents in the June poll did not vote in the last election.
Pew Research Center for the People and the Press
The Pew Center is an independent opinion research group the explores attitudes and opinion towards the press, politics and public policy. Annual polls chart trends in values and social attitudes. The Center is funded by Pew Charitable Trusts, which was established between 1948 and 1979 by two sons and two daughters of Sun Oil Company founder Joseph N. Pew.
Polling Report
Polling Report bills itself as "an independent, nonpartisan resource on trends in American public opinion" and aggregates polling data from a variety of public sources. Sign up for an RSS feed of new poll results.
Roper Center
Founded in 1947, the Roper Center for Public Opinion Research maintains the world's largest archive of survey data. Review Presidential approval ratings from FDR to GWB and national election exit polliing data since 1976. The Center also publishes a running tally of presidential preference polls.
USA Today - CNN - Gallup Poll
Most of the data in this aggregated poll come from 2004 and focus on the upcoming election. Questions about how President Bush have handled the economy and Iraq date from November 2001. Sampling error is +/- 3-4%
Washington Post-ABC News Poll
Launched in February 2001 to measure public opinion about President Bush's performance as president, this aggregated poll includes 29 questions including some that cover the Clinton presidency. There are data on Iraq, the economy, and who might win if the 2004 election were held "today." Error rate is +/- 3 percent.
